What Is Clubhouse?
Clubhouse is a free, invite-only social media app available for iPhone users only. (Sorry Android.) It’s an audio-based social networking app that is rapidly becoming the next big thing in social media. Users can host and listen to audio conversations about predetermined topics. Unlike it’s other social media counterparts, Clubhouse isn’t about photos or videos. You can’t even message through the app – it’s strictly audio. The app allows you to create and join various rooms, turning any room into a big conference call.
How To Join
Clubhouse is currently invite-only, but you can still download the app and get on the waiting list. I actually never got an invitation to join, but was added by a friend who already had an account immediately after downloading it.
How It Works
I’ve had Clubhouse for less than a week and I’m slowly getting the hang of it. It’s almost as addicting as TikTok if podcasts and community is your thing. Clubhouse is a place where people can host, listen, and in some cases join the conversation as a speaker.
Once you open the app, you’ll see a list of rooms and the people in each room. You can join the room by tapping in and quietly leave at any time. ✌🏽
My first day on Clubhouse I joined a room with several casting professionals. I didn’t know anyone in the room, but I wanted to listen in on current casting calls. Before I knew it, I was asked to come up as a speaker and share the show I’m currently working on, Siblings Now Boarding (application here). My anxiety went through the roof and even though I nearly had a panic attack, I had a great time networking with everyone in the room.
Clubhouse is basically a leveled up version of LinkedIn, a live podcast, a conference call, and House Party rolled into one, where people can quickly make connections amid a pandemic. You’re not able to message within the app, but you can connect your Instagram and/or Twitter and continue the conversation off Clubhouse.
