Welcome to my first blog post on Casting with Joy!
My name is Joy and I’m a freelance Casting Associate Producer based in Los Angeles, CA. Shortly after graduating college, I had an amazing opportunity to work as a Casting Associate for America’s Got Talent season 10. In 2015, I transitioned to print and commercial casting. I got to work with incredible production companies and cast print ads for clients such as Target, Apple and Disney to name a few. After three years with the company, I was unexpectedly let go. (Insert crying emoji.) It was probably one of the best things that ever happened to me. Life lesson:
Be grateful some things didn’t work out. Sometimes you don’t even know what you’re being protected from or where you’re being guided to when you’re in the midst of all the chaos. That’s why you have to trust that greater things are aligning for you.
Over the last two years, I’ve been blessed enough to work on amazing shows like Flirty Dancing on Fox, Card Sharks on ABC, America Says on Game Show Network, 12 Dates of Christmas on HBO Max and currently, The Circle on Netflix! (Link to apply for The Circle season 2 on my Now Casting page.)
I’ve also worked as an independent Casting Director, casting extras for a GEICO commercial and real people for a F45 Training digital spot.
With *cough cough* years of experience in casting and notable credits under my belt, I decided to create a blog for all your casting needs.
My favorite part of casting is hearing fascinating stories from all walks of life. It’s important for me to be inclusive and cast diverse people of color, people with disabilities, women, LGBTQ+, gender non-conforming, and other members of historically and currently marginalized communities that are not well represented or misrepresented on television.
